Internet Gateway [ top ]

Ampwest Communications can supply and install a variety of internet Gateways to provide your business with electronic mail and internet services.

These services can be configured on a customer supplied hardware platform or on equipment sourced directly by Ampwest Communications.

Gateways provide a single access point for a specific location to the internet. This is usually achieved through a hardware-based solution, such as a Router or through a combination hardware/software solution using industry standard servers and operating systems.

These solutions, when coupled with high speed internet connections (ADSL, ISDN, Wireless Networking), can provide all your employees of your with individual email and internet facilities.

Mail [ top ]

Ampwest Communications recommends Linux as a cost-effective email solution. The LinuxOperating System runs on virtually any hardware platform and, more importantly, you won't pay huge amounts for software licensing.

We can configure the Linux Mail server with your domain name and deliver mail over the single internet connection directly to network users who simply log in for the services to be delivered straight to their PC.

Ampwest Communications can also provide simple Web-based tools for your network/system administrator to add, remove, delete, auto-forward or alias any email address within your internet domain. Where customers are unable to justify their own internet domain, Ampwest Communications, as an internet Service Provider, can set up appropriate email address facilities (see Connectivity for further detail).

Proxy [ top ]

A Proxy Server takes internet requests from the individual computers on your network and passes them through the single internet Gateway. In reverse, it takes the response from the internet and displays the requested page back on the computer that originated the request. Proxy caches will store regularly requested Web pages locally, making their retrieval faster.

We can use the same Linux server that sends and receives your email to handle the Proxy. Ampwest Communications can provide Web-based tools to manage your Proxy service. You will be able to review the Web downloads on an individual user basis. This will make it easier for you to enforce your business’ policy on acceptable computer use.

Firewall [ top ]

The purpose of a firewall is to restrict access to your company's network and computers to authorised users only. Without adequate security protection, your business’s data and intellectual property are at risk of malicious attack from hackers and possibly even your competitors.

Ampwest Communications deploys a number of Linux-based firewall solutions. We can tailor a solution that best suits your needs and budget.

Website Hosting [ top ]

Ampwest Communications’ Web Site Hosting solutions are also tailored to your business needs and budget. A hosting solution can be incorporated directly on your own Mail/internet server or we can host your site directly from our servers, minimising the need for local computing resources and increasing Web site availability.

The ability to share information internally is critical to the success of any business... Ampwest Communications’ servers are fully capable of integrating with existing Windows or Mac-based environments, as a central point for the backup and restoration of data.

The Linux Samba Server controls users’ access to files and directories via a simple to use Web-based interface.

Server Management [ top ]

Available exclusively to customers that deploy our internet Gateway solution in conjunction with one of our high speed internet connectivity products, is a Server Management Service. This service, in addition to monitoring your internet connection, provides for the updating and patching of the servers operating system and applications where necessary. Ampwest Communications support staff are constantly reviewing software releases for improvements and bug fixes.

This means that your business is not required to provide the technical expertise necessary to maintain a secure and functional internet Server.
